Why did prostatitis develop? Possible causes and risk factors

There are many reasons that cause the development of an inflammatory process in the prostate (prostatitis). These are various sexually transmitted diseases (gonorrhea, trichomoniasis), hormonal disorders, overweight, smoking and alcohol abuse.

Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate that causes discomfort, interferes with sexual function and can cause inflammation of the testicles and epididymis, which ultimately leads to infertility. The pathology is observed in men of different ages, but most often after 35-40 years. There are a number of reasons why prostatitis develops.

Acute and chronic infectious processes as a factor in the development of prostatitis

Often the cause of the development of the inflammatory process of the prostate is the activity of infectious agents. The disease develops due to the penetration of the infection into the prostate, the appearance of which was caused by other diseases. Due to their development, the immune system is weakened, the process of reproduction of pathogenic microflora begins.

Inflammation of the prostate causes:

  • gonococci (causes of gonorrhea);
  • chlamydia (causes of chlamydia);
  • Trichomonas (causes of trichomoniasis);
  • cochus bacillus (cause of tuberculosis);
  • Candida (causes of candidiasis).

Also, prostatitis develops under the influence of Escherichia coli, enterococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, staphylococci.

Violation of blood circulation in the pelvic area

Stagnation of blood and fluid in the pelvic area is due to impaired blood flow in the blood vessels of this area. This phenomenon is associated with factors such as sedentary lifestyle, sedentary work, wearing too tight, squeezing underwear or tight jeans and pants, and being overweight. Slowed blood flow can be associated with disorders of the heart muscle, diseases of the nervous system.

In the presence of such factors, blood does not flow into the prostate in sufficient quantities. This causes a lack of oxygen and increases the risk of developing an inflammatory process.

Long abstinence from sexual intercourse, frequent interruptions of intercourse

If a man has not had sexual intercourse for a long time, and also if he terminates sexual intercourse as a method of contraception, it causes inflammation of the prostate.

In the presence of these factors, a special fluid accumulates in the prostate - a secretion that ensures the vitality and motility of sperm and is normally removed from it. With abstinence and interruption of sexual intercourse, it remains in the prostate or is excreted only partially due to lack of ejaculation.

Congestion causes an increase in the size of the organ and its inflammation.

Hormonal disorders

Hormonal imbalance, in which testosterone production is disturbed, causes the development of an inflammatory process in the prostate.

Hormonal disorders occur as a consequence of such phenomena:

  • anomalies of glands and organs of the endocrine system (thyroid gland, adrenal glands, pituitary gland);
  • testicular injury in which testosterone is produced;
  • lack of physical activity;
  • acute and chronic intoxication;
  • improper diet;
  • frequent stress;
  • living in an unfavorable ecological environment;
  • tumor neoplasms.

Prostatitis can be the result of both a decrease and a sudden increase in male sex hormone levels.

Injuries and hypothermia

Mechanical damage to the pelvic organs and perineum causes obstruction of the prostate, leading to its inflammation. If the injuries were severe, they can cause chronic prostatitis.

groin pain with prostatitis

Hypothermia of the pelvic region, which occurs with prolonged stay in the draft or as a result of wrong choice of clothing (not for the weather), also causes an acute inflammatory process of the prostate. It is important that hypothermia reduces the body's defenses, which under such conditions are unable to fight developing diseases.

Constant nervous tension

Prostatitis can be psychological in nature. The risk group includes men who regularly experience stress, suffer from constant lack of sleep and chronic fatigue, and also experience constant increased mental stress.

The trigger in this case is the production of specific "stress" substances - so the nervous system reacts to the situation. In such conditions, the risk of developing inflammation increases.

Bad habits and unhealthy diet

Alcohol and smoking negatively affect the blood vessels, making them inelastic and fragile. As a result, blood flow to the prostate is reduced, the gland receives less nutrients and oxygen. In such conditions, inflammation develops.

Harmful foods: fatty and fried foods, semi-finished products, canned foods, pickles, as well as beverages such as strong tea and coffee, sweet soda reduce immunity. Therefore, the body cannot fight the pathogens that cause prostate inflammation.

Digestive problems cause frequent constipation

If a person has an improper bowel movement or frequent constipation, dysbiosis develops: in this case, the ratio of beneficial and harmful microflora in the gastrointestinal tract to the latter. This reduces immunity and increases the body's sensitivity to pathogens. In addition, fecal retention stimulates the absorption of toxins into the colon, which also negatively affects the body’s protective function.

Prostatitis is a disease that can cause infertility. This deviation occurs under the influence of various reasons: from pelvic organ injuries to psychological factors. By discovering the cause of prostate inflammation and removing it, you can make progress in treating the pathology.
